All throughout the story he felt invisible to everyone else. One could see who he was and what he did. He had many great qualities and accomplishments, but kept getting thrown back on his face. It was interesting how it went through so many generations. And how it ended exactly where it started. "Barrabas came to us by sea," The first words the same as the last. It was like one big circle that kept flowing and keeping me interested. All the characters had distinctive attributes and as time passed so did the setting and the people. When Kreon heard about this he sent Antigone to prison. Eventually Antigone, Antigone's fiance (Kreon's son), and Kreon's wife all kill themselves. When she sees her son with a knife she immediately takes it away and retells the story of how her older son and husband were killed in a knife fight. But later on the mother ends up giving her son a knife to fight Leonardo. Now why would she encourage her son to do that. That completely goes the opposite way. But I guess there needed to be some way to symbolize the knife as killing weapon. And there could not be any better way than to have a argument about it in the first few lines of the story. Something I liked about the play was that Leonardo was the only one with a real name. I am not sure why it was written like that, but maybe Leonardo was considered the protagonist.

Gregorio Cortez

Gregorio Cortez was a hero in the stories and the Americans were the bad guys. That is opposite to what I am used to hearing. No one knows what he looks like except that sometimes he was represented as a god. There were many variations to the story. They all showed different actions that Cortez did. Sometimes he went different places, different amunt of men he killed, and different ways of his capture. Its about a woman and all her struggles. I felt it showed a good representation of what people were like during those times. Edna could not seem to figure out what she wanted. She did not know who she loved and who loved her. She just wanted a happy quiet life with the man she loved. The end was bad because she killed herself, but I think the author did the right thing by having her do it. That is what probably would of happened in real life. Edna felt alone while she was alive so she decided to die alone too.

The Yellow Wallpaper

We discussed a lot about why Gilman wrote this story. There were many interpretations on it like the representation of husband and wife or doctor and patient. No one knew what the real purpose was so many more opinions were added. At the end of class we read what Gilman said about her story. According to her it was to help people from going insane. It had nothing to do with gender. So I guess the main topic was between doctor and patient.

Douglas

I enjoyed reading about Douglas. He had a lot of confidence and determination to succeed in learning how to read and write. He showed a lot of power and authority throughout his life. No matter how much he got beat, he always got back up determined to live another day and not let the slave owners win. He was very courageous in teaching the other slaves and planning an escape. He was very smart and intuitive.
